Selecting an OEM supplier involves more than comparing quotations and reviewing product photos. Buyers also need to understand how a manufacturer communicates, organizes its work and responds to project requirements.

A recent supplier visit by our client from Spain, gave both teams the chance to discuss these points directly at Foshan ATA METAL, and to visit our sheet metal workshop together.

– Meeting Our Client from Spain at Foshan ATA METAL

Initially, we exchanged multiple emails about the specifics of a sheet metal customization product.

Our client asked to visit factory, between July 1st and 3rd to get a more in-depth look at our production environment. By touring the supplier’s factory in person, we can verify the authenticity of our factory and gain a clearer understanding of the factory’s production scale.

-Visiting the Sheet Metal Workshop

After the meeting, we visit the sheet metal production line (click to view more videos about our) workshop.

Our clients were able to directly observe the configuration of production equipment for different processes and see the actual production scale of the factory.

For overseas buyers, factory visit provides important reference information, helping them assess whether the supplier’s production capacity can meet the requirements of future customized sheet metal projects.

-Why Supplier Visits Still Matter in OEM Sourcing?

Factory visits cannot replace drawings, samples, quality records, or necessary formal supplier audits. Their value lies in shortening the distance between project leaders.

Both parties can raise and answer questions in specific contexts, and assess whether communication is clear and effective.

This is crucial for OEM procurement because many issues may arise even before production begins. For example, unclear specifications (especially small but important details like critical tolerances), incomplete documentation, or differing assumptions about quality and delivery.

Direct communication helps identify these problems early and lays the foundation for collaboration.

-After the Supplier Visit

After the visit, the project will continue according to the regular steps: reviewing drawings or samples, confirming specifications, assessing manufacturability, and planning any necessary follow-up work. The supplier visit facilitates subsequent work by fostering a shared understanding of the people, facilities, and communication processes behind the project.
